Police Review Board

Procedures for a Fair and Impartial Examination of the Events on November 9, 2011

  • A subcommittee of five members of the Police Review Board will conduct the inquiry:
    • Jesse Choper (chair), Earl Warren Professor of Public Law
    • Omar Kunbargi, ASUC Representative
    • Tyson Nagler, Staff Representative
    • Ronald Nelson, Retired Chief of Police of the City of Berkeley and UCSF
    • Eve Weissman, Graduate Assembly Representative
  • Two meetings, open to students and other community members, will be held on February 13 and February 15 at 6:30-9:30 PM, Booth Auditorium, Boalt Hall, to hear statements related to the events at Sproul Plaza on November 9. Speakers will sign up for five minute time slots. Individuals may also submit statements (anonymously if they wish) in the form of videos, photos, and other relevant information to prbinvestigation@berkeley.edu.
  • Shortly thereafter, a hearing before the sub-committee will be held at which representatives of the faculty, student body, and campus police department will each present videos and statements (if necessary to supplement the videos) regarding the events of November 9.
  • The sub-committee will also interview members of the campus administration in respect to how the conduct of the police on November 9 was authorized and monitored.
  • The Police Review Board will then file a report of its conclusions and necessary recommendations.
